STAR TREK'S FORMULA FOR SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION

This article discusses how Star Trek created a formula for sustainable innovation. Star Trek’s society was inclusive and collaboratively practiced sustainable innovation. Each built environment met its own needs and when they encountered others, they self-sustained and innovated, as well. The creation of a digital marketplace gives individuals greater control over their health, wealth, and work via telecommunicating and the gig economy. However, those with lower levels of education might have difficulty accessing new jobs, which would have to be countered. Advancements in artificial intelligence, automation and digital platforms are rewriting our entire economy. These technologies have the potential to positively affect wealth disparity and quality of life. In the Star Trek community, people have the right to a good job and everybody contributes somehow. This would have to be implemented successfully along with innovation to make cities more livable and sustainable. The future and sci-fi fantasy and coming together and through trial and error, may prevail.
